Home mission dioceses are those Catholic dioceses in the United States, its territories, and former territories that cannot provide basic pastoral services without outside help. Basic pastoral services include Mass, the sacraments, religious education, and ministry training for
priests, deacons, religious sisters, and laypeople. Nearly 40% of dioceses in the United States and its territories are considered home missions.
Each year, a special offertory collection is taken up throughout the Archdiocese on Good Shepherd Sunday which is allocated to three special funds supporting the Priesthood.
1. The education and support of our 25 seminarians
2. Continuing education and retreats for our priests (there are more than 115 of us)
3. The care of our 22 retired priests
The Catholic Communication Campaign helps the Church spread the Gospel message in the U.S. and in developing countries using modern media tools to inform, inspire, and enlighten. Half of the collected funds remain in your diocese to support local communications projects. The other half provide grants that support the collective communication work of the bishops of the United States as well as other national projects in the United States and around the world.
The Peter’s Pence Collection to support the Universal Church and the work of the Holy See, including helping Pope Francis to carry out his charitable works. These works benefit our brothers and sisters on the margins of society, including victims of war, oppression, and disasters. Please be generous!
This collection supports the Solidarity Fund for the Church in Africa. Although the Church in Africa is growing, many still lack access to basic resources and pastoral care. The Solidarity Fund supports pastoral projects to build the capacity of the Church and foster lasting peace and reconciliation across a continent often marked by division and tension.
Our mission is to identify, develop, and secure the necessary resources to advance the University’s aspirations and goals, both now and in the future. Mindful that every relationship built and nurtured is of value to the University, we measure our impact through the generous gifts of time, talent, and treasure shared within the University community. We are faithful stewards of these resources.
In 1926 Pope Pius XI instituted Mission Sunday for the whole Church with the first worldwide Mission Sunday collection taking place in October 1927. The Mission Sunday collection is always taken on the next to last Sunday during the month of October. That day is celebrated in all the local Churches as the feast of catholicity and universal solidarity so Christians the world over will recognize their common responsibility with regard to the evangelization of the world.
The Archdiocese for the Military Services is responsible for providing pastoral care and services
to active-duty men and women serving in all six branches of the United States Armed Forces
stationed at home and abroad, enrolled in U.S. Military Academies, undergoing treatment at any of the 153 Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Centers, working in civilian jobs for the federal government beyond U.S. borders - and their families.
Catholics across the United States have the opportunity to honor the World Day of the Poor and help their neighbors who struggle against poverty by giving to the annual special collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD).
The National Religious Retirement Office coordinates the annual national appeal for the Retirement Fund for Religious and distributes financial assistance for retirement needs to eligible religious institutes. NRRO strives to support, educate and assist religious institutes in the United States to care for their elderly and frail members now and in the future.
